About

Who is Kara?

Hi friends! I play the piano, harp, flute, piccolo, ukulele, guitar, dulcimer, tin whistle, and am a classically trained vocalist. I have over ten years of experience teaching and performing and do everything for the glory of God.

I was raised in a family of musicians (and grew up in the family music business, “The Harmony House”) and started taking piano lessons at the age of four. Once I learned the basics of music, I enjoyed learning any instrument I could get my hands on. I began teaching music at the age of 15 and loved seeing those “lightbulb” moments with my students!

I am a graduate of Kennesaw Mountain High School where I was the first chair flute and piccolo, section leader, soloist in the National Champion marching band, and recipient of the John Philip Sousa Award.

My desire to continue teaching and playing music led me to attend Berry College (Rome, GA) as a Music Education Major with concentrations in piano, choir, and band. At Berry College, I had the opportunity to learn every instrument and take private lessons for voice, piano and flute. In addition, during college I kept up my harp skills, performed in weddings, and began my private music studio.

After college, I married my high school sweetheart, Zach, and moved to Nashville, TN, where I was a middle school choir director. Now I live in Durham, NC with Zach and our mini Aussie, Millie!

Along with teaching in my studio and performing for weddings and events, I also enjoy volunteering as a worship vocalist at Bright City Church and serving in assisted living and memory care centers. In addition, I support my parents’ music business and am a high school marching band clinician.
